Author’s Note: Inspired by the prompt from Tarat83, Jax’s home coming. I really was going for happy and the something strange happened!

Carly never thought that her first glimpse of Jax in three months would be like this.

She'd imagined a phone call, a rush to get ready and each of them calm and collected. They’d go for dinner and it would be like he never left as they discussed her boys, the Metro Court and Jerry’s latest disappearing act.

But that’s the fantasy.

Instead, it's the emergency room of General Hospital and she has someone else’s blood on her.

When their eyes lock she can see the panic in her eyes reflected clearly in his and it takes all her strength not to launch herself into his arms and beg him to tell her it's all going to be okay, that it’s all a mistake.

But it isn't. Because it's her best friend being worked on behind those green doors and nothing about this situation is okay.

Their eyes break contact when Alan steps through the doors, the devastation on his face is palpable and she doesn’t need words to tell her Jason is gone.

She can hear Sam screaming, Sonny yelling and the blood is thumping in her head as she slips to the floor.

Jax is by her side in a second and his arms are around her. She wants to tell him not to get blood on him, a stupid, fleeting thought but it’s all that will register.

There’s a wailing sound and it takes a moment for her to realize that it’s coming from her. His grip on her tightens but it isn’t enough to keep reality from hitting.

It was meant to be a fancy restaurant; it was never supposed to be like this.
